Energy |
The global warming |
The sun heats the earth through solar radiation. Some of this energy is then
radiated from the earth back into space in the form of infrared radiation.
Gases in the atmosphere, known as 'greenhouse gases'.
Of the so-called 'greenhouse' gases, carbon dioxide (CO2) is the
most significant. Others include methane, nitrogen oxides and
chlorofluorocarbons.
However, over the last 200 years the industrialized world has been producing an
increasing concentration of the gases that cause the greenhouse effect, leading
to fears of a long-term change in global climate.
Energy like Electricity gas and oil are example of energy generated by burning
fossil fuels, which releases CO2 that contributes to global warming,
concentration of CO2 in atmosphere is increasing and impacts earth's
average temperature and changes in global weather pattern. Mobinil use energy
to power its network, offices and shops. Also is pursuing optimizing energy use
as it is good for the environment, reduces cost and is integral to business
efficiency.
We seek to reduce our overall energy use and to buy more electricity from
renewable sources where possible. We aim to balance our growth with a policy of
due care.
|
Commitment to the
Egyptian legalization - Mobinil control its CO2 emissions by following
the CO2 releases limits & standards, stated by the law, and energy audits,
procurement of renewable energy, using energy-efficiency equipment, carbon
offsetting, where appropriate.
|
Energy performance
management - Energy is at the heart of sustainable development. We
continue to develop policies to manage and measure our performance.
|
Renewable Energy
- Our use of renewable energy increases every year.
|
Using
energy-efficiency equipment.
|
Transport -
increased use of technology, green travel plans, management information (fuel
types etc).
|
Use of solar system
generated power - Using solar system as power supply instead of
generators for remote sites to know more about this initiative,

Waste |
|
Waste is generated by our network engineering operations, distribution centre,
shops, offices and customer communication centers. |
|
Methods include incinerations (release harmful emissions to air) and land fills
(use of increasing land areas to meet increasing generation of waste) better
ways of managing end-of-life products. |
|
We ensure that our waste is sent to appropriately licensed facilities. Looking
ahead, our priority is to reduce waste at source, and re-use or recycle waste
materials where possible. |
|
We have established a comprehensive recycling system throughout our major
buildings - including Shredded Paper Recycling: Shredding and packing
waste paper resulting from daily office work to know more about this
initiative, press here. |
|
Xerox empty CRU - Mobinil collects empty used units in order to be recycled to
know more about this initiative, press
here. |
|
Mobile waste battery collection and recycling - Mobinil concluded an agreement
to recycle the waste mobile phone batteries in Egypt to know more about this
initiative, press here. |
|
With targets for office waste recycling and plans to include a number of other
identified waste streams. |
We are involved in several initiatives to reduce wastes:
-
Incorporating environmental criteria into our waste management contracts when
ever possible.
-
Establishing a data collection system so that we can monitor waste quantities
and set targets.
-
Reuse and recycle resources where possible.
-
Integrate environmental considerations into business decisions.
-
Educate employees, customers, about environmental issues also encouraging
employees participations in recycling initiative.
-
Bio-degradable paper Scratch Cards - Mobinil uses hard paper scratch cards
instead of plastic cards.
-
E-recharging – all you have to do is recharge your account directly over
the air, without the need for scratch cards or recharge codes. All you have to
do is visit the nearest Mobinil Shops, Point of sales (POS) or
distributors. to know more about this initiative,

ensuring our diesel tanks are all secondary protected against leakage or
spills.
-
Use of technology - We encourage the use of technology rather than
business travel at all times; our Environmental Forum, for example, meets by
audio conferencing. Which decrease CO2 Emissions.
